SCI’s Zoe Brooke and Tim Whitehill were pleased to join former Everton and England footballer, Trevor Steven, at the launch of his new charity Mindflow at the National Football Museum last week (6-9pm, 20th March 2025). Mindflow, is a pioneering charity dedicated to addressing mental health issues within the construction industry.
Trevor opened the event with an emotional message about his new mission to “join the dots of football and construction.” He highlighted the alarming statistic that two construction workers take their own lives every day. Over the past year, Trevor has visited construction sites across the country, encouraging workers to discuss their mental health challenges while engaging in conversations about football. Mindflow’s research reveals that three-quarters of construction workers are football fans, and discussing football provides a common ground to facilitate these important conversations.
Trevor was joined by a panel of guests, hosted by Frank McKenna (Downtown in Business), including: Anna Evans (Lendlease), Oliver Harrison (KOA Health), Stephen Young (Halton Borough Council), and Matt Hill (Brand Access Solutions).
Mindflow aims to leverage the power of football to engage construction workers across the country, promoting mental health awareness and support. The charity’s ‘Talk Football, Talk Mental Health’ program will see current and ex-football players visiting construction sites to deliver mental health awareness sessions, encourage conversation, and recruit volunteers to train as mental health first aiders.
Asked about Mindflow’s mission, SCI’s Zoe Brooke commented “it is so important we find different ways to engage construction workers in discussing mental health. Mindflow is a wonderful way to do this, and Trevor has so much passion to use his experiences in football, to help support the people in our industry.”
Fellow footballers Peter Reid, Gary Lineker, Ally McCoist, Viv Anderson, Robbie Fowler, and Stuart Pearce, all of whom are backing Mindflow’s mission joined in with video messages of support.
The charity has been established in partnership with Causeway Technologies and their founder Phil Brown.
