During Women in Construction Week, our North Wales Committee hosted a Women in Construction Roundtable, with Bangor University (The Management Centre) providing a beautiful setting (and the weather to match!).
The event brought together professionals from across the region to explore how we can better attract, support and retain women in the construction sector.
We discussed:
- The reality behind the statistics on female representation in construction, including persistent gaps on site and in senior roles
- The role of schools, colleges and degree apprenticeships in North Wales in shaping the talent pipeline
- Structural barriers such as transport and access to opportunities, and how these affect women’s career choice
- Workplace culture issues, including the gender pay gap, confidence in pay negotiations, PPE, women’s health, and the importance of more open, stigma-free conversations
We closed with an activity to brainstorm practical ideas for future events and collaborations that bring industry, education and local stakeholders together to create real change.
Our next step is to turn these insights into actionable events for North Wales and beyond, so watch this space!
A special thank you to our sponsors P4 Planning Limited and Viridian Consulting Engineers Ltd, for supporting the conversation.
